One nice thing about the Spotmatics was that even though they started out using mercury batteries, they have a bridge circuit that lets them use modern batteries with no problem.

Very nice shape. I have one of those also. I bought some of the Pentax clamp on cold shoes to put on just for looks.

I always thought that the early Pentax SLRs had some very nice lines to them. There is something about the shape of that wind lever that says simple elegance. Maybe that is it, elegant and understated. Nice find, you should get some fine photos with that Tak.

Or you could get an SPII that already has the hotshoe. Your SP500 is in a lot better shape than my SPII. It has a lot of brass showing on the corners.

SP500? my first camera! That was back in 1972, but I sold it about 1980 when I decided to return to college at age 32. Recently I acquired one again, along with a Spotmatic. The Spotmatic was in great condition except for the covering - I picked up a blue lizard set from Aki Asahi & took about 5 minutes to install it. Looks absolutely lovely.

This camera is simple and straightforward, I use mine from time to time and am please that the meter is giving good results in spite of its age.
