I have just read the sad news about Peter. For whatever reason I can't reply on the original thread, so I have started this.
John, your dad will be very much missed by us all here.
I did note that of late he wasn't posting too much, but I always hoped it was just that "computer crash" and not something more sinister. His posts were always interesting and full of content. More than that, though, they were also written with style and wit.
RIP, Peter, you will live on in our memories, happy memories of good times "spent together".
My condolences to all the family.
Dave.

I have noticed that the thread "Peter Wallage" is locked, presumably unintentionally when it was first opened. It looks as though only moderators can post to that thread. Can it not be unlocked?

My deepest condolences to you John and your family.
This post makes me really sad. I have got to know Peter as a gentleman with a great character, knowledge and a sophisticated sense of humor. I have learnt so much from him, concerning camera restauration, the English language and European history. The forum has lost a significant member.
Rest in peace, Sir Peter.

So sorry for you loss. Peter's knowledge played a huge role in the success of this forum. Although I had never met him in person I thought of him as an old, close friend--not just in cameras but in life.

I don't know how it got locked, but I unlocked it. Peter was like that old "dutch uncle" that many of us could look forward to knowing how to solve the unknown.

Exactly, "Dutch Uncle" sure is fitting.

MIK, a Dutch Uncle is someone you can turn to for straight talk. An advisor. Someone that helps put you in your place.
MIK, ein holländischer Onkel ist jemand Sie können sich für das gerade Gespräch zuwenden. Ein Berater. Jemand, der hilft, Sie in Ihrem Platz zu bringen.
