I was sorting out some images today to test the print quality on a printer I am testing and I ran across these images--which are among my favorites. All of them were shot with a Nikon D100, my first DSLR. Today's DSLRs may have a lot more megapixels and more sophisticated exposure and focus systems but I don't think they could do any better. This was shot on a side street in Luzern. I was waiting for my mate to come out of a store when I saw and elderly couple walking down the hill arm-in-arm. They have a beautiful dignity that only comes from spending so many years together. This is one of the figures on the statue in the Munich city square commemorating the medieval battle fought against the Black Plague--giving God and his angels credit for their deliverance. I've seen other plague memorials but there was something particularly striking about this statue. This is one of my all-time favorite images-- a shot of "The Dying Lion of Luzern, a memorial honoring the members of the Swiss who died trying to protect Louis XVI from the mobs. They could have walked away but refused to break their pledge to the king. The statue is in a quiet park not far from the city center. Even Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) commented on it when he visited the memorial in the late 1800s. I like the way the inscription under the lion is reflected in the mossy pond. Share some of your all-time favorite images.

Wayne's photo of The Dying Lion of Luzern should be sent to the Captain of the Costa Concordia.
