I have been wondering for a long time, if there is a possibility for connecting a modern camera flash to a vintage camera.
From what I noticed, cameras started to have a PC style flash connection from about the middle of the 50s. It is easy to get an adapter for those ones, but what about the older ... I am not sure, how it is called correctly ? Maybe Kodak mount ? Some kind of pin is sticking out in the middle ( like on the attached picture of the Fujica Six flash connection ).
Has anybody ever seen an adapter for this kind of older flash mounts ?

Mickey,
and where did you get those ? I asked in the biggest camera store here in Tokyo ( actually the biggest in the world, I think ) ... and they have never heard of it.
It would be okay, if I would get such an adapter online as well, but how do I need to search for it ?

One of the toughest flash connectors to find is one for the early Canon RF cameras, They was two rails running down one end of the body and the synch cord had to have and end that mated with the rails, To the best of my knowledge no one ever manufactured a pc cord adapter. When I had such a camers I was going to make on using the connector from a Canon flash (bulb) mount, but never got it done.

Mickey, It would be okay, if I would get such an adapter online as well, but how do I need to search for it ? Berndt I have been looking but still cannot answer that question. You want an adapter to enable you to use a flashgun with a P/C (Pronto/Compur) connector, with a Kodak camera's ASA flash terminal. Mickey

Thanks a lot. I might have found something: www.paramountcords.com/custom.aspA little bit pricy, but at least a possibility. Special photo accessories are not cheap anyway I need to think about it.

I've never had to worry too much about flash fittings. I have found this, www.photomemorabilia.co.uk/Ilford/Flash_History.html , which has the A.S.A. fitting about a quarter of the way down the page. There was an audio plug/socket which was something similar, as are some of the digital aerial systems. I don't know what size they are, but can you not buy something off the shelf and cannibalise* to make the required adapter? Even if there isn't a ready made female socket (such as a coaxial female socket) which is the correct size there must be correct diameter brass (or whatever) available from model shops. * cannibalise means: alter, cut, break up (or whatever) a standard part to make it into the shape you want.

The fitting looks very similar to a miniature lamp holder.

another source is to buy an old flash bulb gun on Ebay with the bayonet style connector, Kodak even made a converter from that ASA bayonet style to PC , I would search Ebay if you don't have luck, or some of the larger old used equipment dealers like Columbus Camera Group. Jay

My adapter on a Kodak 35. It looks like Rachel has solved your problem and with a more elegant looking adapter than mine. Mickey
