While my birth certificate may suggest I'm retired, I don't have time for that. I'm here to learn. I'm a journalist specializing in the photo business. For several years I was a senior editor with the Photo Marketing Assoc. I have been editor of a couple of Canadian photo magazines, had a radio show about photography, and write two photo-related blogs (grandpaparazzi.wordpress.com/ and focuscanada.wordpress.com/). I may be here under false colours; about the only thing I collect is information . . . and a drawerful of DVDs crammed with photos. I had a father who was an avid photographer, and grew up shooting with Leicas and Rolleis, as well as Bolex cine cameras. I "helped" my Dad in the darkroom from about the time I could peer over the counter.

Aha, I beat Mickey and Bob's on holidays, so greetings from a fellow Ontarian, albeit a northerner. Glad to have you here. All new members are welcome, regardless if you collect or just share enthusiasm.

Greetings from another Torontonian, Don. I am legitimately retired and still don't have enough time. Now I no longer need feel so beset by all these dang furriners. In truth, this is a wonderful place to get and pass on information. The folks here are warm and caring and cheerful and not overly argumentative. Their cumulative knowledge of photography could easily fill a pocketbook. Small bits of a good portion of the planet are represented here and constitute what some call a family. As Stuart McLean might say "We may not be big but we are small."

Don, welcome. "I may be here under false colours..." definitely not - nothing false about anyone who spells "colours" with a 'u' Mickey: "Their cumulative knowledge of photography could easily fill a pocketbook."What? Not enough to fill a textbook. Dave.

Welcome, Don.
When I started collecting Soviet cameras I enjoyed digging up information on the various models as much as I enjoyed actually acquiring them. Makes one feel good when a Russian camera seller cites you as an expert on the details of a particular model.
I'm another ex writer/ editor for the newspaper and book publishing area.
Hope you enjoy the forum.
