I have a couple of cameras that need new light seals - an Olympus trip and a Voigtlander Bessamatic. The Olympus's seals are a sticky mess and the Bessamatic's are squashed so falt they are doing nothing (except let light in!).
What can I use for new light seal material? Can I actually buy 'proper' light seals from somewhere?
Any advice much appreciated.

I do have a UK advert for light seal material. I haven't time to fine id at the moment - off out soon - but I post here or PM you probably tomorrow.
Dave.
p.s. I'm not sure if I found it via ebay.

I get mine on e-bay. There's a fellow who sells the material and sends it, plus instructions, for a very reasonable price (one of those buy it now deals). Its an easy job, and well worth the effort.

I use a cheap material intended for children's models in schools, EVA rubber foam. It comes in sheets of about 1.5 mm thickness. Down here it is available in every paper store, in single sheets. I use the black ones. I cut individual strips of seal with scissors or Stanley knife, and glue the strips in place. Works for me. Other people use black velvet strips - these are especially good for the hinge seal in the back. The hardest part is cleaning out the old seals.

Doug and John, I think that you might both be referring to the same person. Jon Goodman is just what his name implies: a genuine good guy! He sold for years under the name "Interslice," but got tired of other sellers buying his stuff then reselling it at inflated prices. Contact him via the e-mail link in Ron's site (that's the one John Farrell posted) and I'm sure he will reply. His stuff is top-grade and reasonably priced. He is also ready to help if needed. Roy

I have used Jon Goodman's seals.
His materials and fully illustrated instructions are are excellent. He even sends a little bamboo tool.

I have used sheets of black foam for crafting from the Dollar Store. They come in different thicknesses. I cut them with an exacto knife and steel straight edge. Popsicle sticks and tongue depressor sticks can be used to help install them. The same sticks can be carved to form handy scrapers for removing the old foam. OTH you can just get a replacement kit from Jon Goodman. Never used his kits but have heard nothing but good reports from those who have.

I can't find the" light seal" bookmark. It must either be on another computerm or I have lost it when I tidied my bookmarks up - pitting them neatly into folders, rather than a big long list, to make each easier to find, I've just found this firm, which seems to offer a decent range: www.cam-spares.com/page3.htm

Yes, another referral for Jon Goodman. I have done countless SLR's with kits from Jon. He is the best! I believe his ebay name is Interslice or something like that.

I too have bought light seal kits from Jon Goodman and they are of the highest quality. But the last time I contacted Jon to purchase more he said that was having a hard time getting material. It seems the tsunami in Japan last year had adversely affected his supply. He also said that someone on eBay had been buying his kits in bulk and then turning around and reselling them in pieces as a kit for one specific camera. I was forced to try another seller on eBay who goes by "pilgrim18" and they are out of England. I am pleased with their product but wish all the luck in the world to Jon as his product was of the highest quality and he is a great person to deal with. Here is a link to some of his instructions for various cameras. www.kyphoto.com/classics/sealreplacement.html

Another source of light seal material is the self adhesive weather strips for windows & doors available from a hardware store. Try to get the very thin on at 2mm
