Hey everyone, found this group through Google searches on older cameras. I've been collecting for a few years and I have accumulated a very broad range of toys ranging from very early Leicas to Leica M series, vintage bakelite point and shoots from the 1940's and 50's, 1970's rangefinders, toy cameras of every conceivable description and vintage, and modern digitals ranging from point and shoots to a Canon 5dmkii. I love them all and rotate through the collection as much as I can. I shoot mostly film but do some digital work as well, mostly product shots for my business.
One thing I love about camera collecting is that these instruments are such wonderful examples of product design and industrial production. You can trace the evolution of camera development through the years and it's very interesting to see how various advances changed the industry and lead to new and improved designs. Kinda like tracing the roots of rock and roll music to the blues. The best part is you can still use most of these cameras to make great images.
I also really enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to use older cameras and mastering their various quirks. There are some fascinating designs out there and many evolutionary dead ends.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to hanging out here as time permits and hopefully some of you guys might have some answers to my questions as they arise and I hope I can make some contributions as well.
