Hi ! I took home some interesting cameras from an annual flea market about two weeks ago. They are all working and came with bag and lens cap, prices had been quite low. The first one is a rarely seen 6x6 TLR named “Flexo” and was made by “Lipca”, Lippische Camerafabrik Richter&Fischer, Barntrup in Germay in 1949 / 1950. The lens is a Ennar. A German Balda Rigona folder for 3x4 roll film from 1936 with a Schneider Radionar. A French Ikonta-copy named “Drepy” from the 1940`s which I have never seen before. I also could not resist to invest 2.- EUR in two 1980`s plastic fantastic Konica`s ;D MIK

At first glance I thought the Drepy had "Orestor" written on the lens/shutter bezel. Now I think it says Drestop. I have an Orestor lens on the old Praktica LLC.
NIK, no wonder there isn't really room for a train set!

You are right, this one has a Drestop / France shutter. The lens is a Pierrat Drestar 1:4.5 F=105. Mc Keown`s tells, that Mr. Andre Pierrat secretly developed this Zeiss-copy during the occupation of France. After WWII this model became the first quality French-made camera. I have only one wind-up tin toy train: the Rail-Zeppelin ( 0 gauge ) and a large box of old rails, which I got as a present from a friend long time ago, somwhere in the basement. ;D MIK

This is not really a flea market find but almost as good. A department store was closing one of its branches and had some pretty good price reductions on new equipment. I have been looking for a cheap point and shoot as a backup for those occasions when my K-5 was too big. As I did not expect to use it often I only had one criterion. It had to have an eye level viewfinder. I had just about concluded they were extinct when up popped this Canon Power Shot A1200 with exactly what I wanted and more. The photo here is about 3-1/2 times larger than life. Optical viewfinder as well as the usual subminiature, sun shy movie screen on the back. 12.1 Mega Pixels. 50 to 200 mm power zoom. Macro setting. Built in flash. Takes sound movies up to 1 hour & 45 minutes with a 16 GB memory card. And a whole bunch of other stuff that I may never use. It is 3-3/4" wide by 2-1/2" high by 1" at its thickest. It really fits into a pocket. Vest Pocket Kodak's beware. Drawbacks: I have too many fingers for such a tiny camera. I shall have to learn to manage them. An enormous on line instruction manual that may never be read completely. As a bonus, It takes very good pictures as well. Mickey

Eye Level, that reminds me: Van der Valk theme by the Simon Park Orchestra.
What's the viewfinder like.? Some seem to go back to the days of poky viewfinders and aren't too easy to use. A few months ago I was in one the big retailers of electrical, computer and camera equipment. I was just looking at the latest camcorders when a fellow shopper started bemoaning the fact that most camcorders made now do not have a proper viewfinder. There are some still around, but they are not cheap compared to the others.

"What's the viewfinder like.?"
The viewfinder eyepiece is tiny. It is only 1/4" long and 3/8" deep but one need not put the eye right up to it. Even with my glasses on I can see the whole frame. It zooms along with the lens. It is very bright.

Hi Mik!
It never ceases to amaze me what you find at your flea markets over there ! All of ours are pretty well played out, the dealers seem to think that they are going to get rich off of us poor collectors. It's very sad. It's still possible to get a good deal, but they are getting harder to find.

Mickey, the eyepiece seems a bit more usable than on that some I have seen.

Hi ! I am back again. Last week I had been to Nuremberg / Germany where ( coincidentally ) one of the biggest outdoor flea markets in Europe took place. And you guessed it, I brought along some cameras ;D. Weather had been fine on Friday, sunshine and almost 30° C. A 6x9 Ernemann Film K box from the 1920`s for 25.- Euros. A complete Voigtlaender Vitrona outfit with guarantee card in mint condition from 1967 for 34.- Euros ! A boxed Minox AF from 1988. Minox 35 EL, 35 GL, 35 PL and a Revue 35 XE Minox-copy made by Balda in 1984. All with working battery, case and box, 18.- per item ( including the AF ). And finally a French small-sized Graphoscope – viewer for stereo cards from the late 1880`s for 40.- Euros. I have seen a similar one there a few steps ahead, but that guy charged 250.-. Now my big one has got a little brother. MIK

The best I can find at the few flea markets I have attended in the Toronto area is cheap tins of flea powder.

Mickey, Same as in the Tarn & Garrone region of France, flea markets a plenty from spring right through end of summer but nothing to shout about as far as cameras is concerned.
