I recently obtained a Seagull TLR camera from a friend. I think it is a 4A-103, but I can't recall, and these have no clear model ID designations.
However, this is a very solid camera and seems to work perfectly and I'm impressed. I will load some film shortly and give you a report.
In the meantime, has anyone used such a camera and any thoughts about it?

Hi Todd, I have a Seagull and like you say it's difficult to find out which model. Mine is jammed at the moment or I'm not savvy enough to figure it out. It sits on a shelf till time and energy allow me to have at it again.

Curt, Don't force anything. Use a rubber crutch tip to unscrew the taking lens. Then give it some Ronsonal. Many times it's just gummed up and people try to force the winder, breaking the camera. Todd, It is a 4A103.

Thanks Gman, I'll give it a try and see if I can get the old girl working again.

Ronsonal lighter fluid is a very good solvent to loosen dried grease stuck parts. I've used is to loosen the aperture ring on Leica lenses, and just recently, following instructions given on this forum, I successfully dissolved grease holding the first and second element of a lens on an Isolette-1 using Ronsonal in a 24 hour bath, and it now focuses properly. Ronsonal has a bit of oil in it so be careful when using it on apertures and shutter blades. A small amount does a big job. You may need to remove some residue with a Q-tip or soft lint-free cloth, very carefully. You can get an oil free degreaser from www.microtools.com (I think that's the correct URL), but Ronsonal work great on most issues of stuck parts. Anyone know if the Seagull 4A103 is a 3 or 4 element lens?

I'm not sure what a "rubber crutch tip" is but I buy hard rubber stoppers from the hardware store, in many sizes, to unwind lens rings that don't allow for a spanner wrench.

Hi Todd, Thanks for the link and info. A rubber crutch tip is exactly what it sounds like, the rubber tip from the bottom of a pair of wooden crutches. Anyone like myself that's had a leg injury usually has a set or two, if not most Salvation Army stores usually have plenty.
