I would like to introduce myself to you, my name is Spencer Wilkinson (Mayberryman) from Colonial Heights, Va. I do not consider myself an expert or even good at taking photographs. I have taken a lot of snap shots, some at racing events and have even sold some of them at the tracks. About 28 years ago my son started to race BMX and we traveled on the East Coast to attend races and selling pictures of the kids racing helped to pay for this. I have always had the simple Minolta SLR 35MM cameras such as the 101 I started with and the 201 that replaced it when it died and now I have three X-370s and a 100 that I picked up at a yard sale. As I get older I have found that I have, once again, become attracted to taking pictures at racing events such as SCCA and NASCAR and being an old guy will use 35MM film until either I or the foremat goes away. Enough of my ramblings, I guess I will become the Fred Sanford of this board looking for those cheap Minoltas that everybody else throws away.

Welcome old guy from another old guy.
I think if you ever try digital with a decent camera you may become a convert.
I made the switch rather than fight about 6 years ago and have never looked back. AND I no longer count the cost of each shot as I snap the shutter nor do I have to pay for processing.
You have the beginnings of a fine Minolta collection. They would look very handsome on a shelf enjoying a well earned retirement and the occasional dusting.
Hey. I am merely opinionated. I don't care for proselytising.

Welcome Mayberryman--glad you found your way here. Keep shooting film when you can. Enjoy those old Minolta's...they are amazing pieces of precision and are a thrill to use. Mickey--remember without the love of the old SLR's we would never have all got to know each other and there are hundreds of forums for digital fanatics to go and enjoy but very few places for vintage camera lovers and even fewer that have such wonderful and colorful characters like here!

Bob,
You are quite correct.
I bow to your wisdom.
I still get a charge when I pick up my Exakta VX IIa or my Canon T-90 or an Autographic Vest Pocket Kodak or a Graflex Century Graphic and dozens of others. They are special creations that will never be replicated. The feel, the heft, the operation and even the sounds are unique and special and endearing......... If only Beethoven could have heard them.
But digital is soooo cheap and so am I.

I think that could be static.
Welcome Spencer. None of us is getting any younger: even if more of us can afford the old cameras we can hardly afford the film to load them with and do them real justice.

Welcome to the camera collector forum Mr. Wilkinson. A place to stop by & share a love for all things photography related. Or just a chat. As a film shooter, you must still have a lab available. Use it or loose it.
What films are you currently shooting with?

I guess it's time for me to stifle my modesty show off my huge Minlota collection. Left to right as the saying goes: Autopak 500, 3 Hi-Matic F's. One works - the other two are waiting for a donor., Flash Minolta 80, Makinon 80-200mm f4.5 Auto Zoom. Yes. It holds the set aperture throughout its zoom range. SR-1, With dead 5R Meter 2, SR T 200, SR-2. Pocket Pak 440E, Auto Pak 450E, Polarizing filter, Maxxum 7000, Manual for the 7000 thanks to Mr. Butkus. Mickey

I too am especially fond of Minoltas. They are what I started out with in 35mm way back when. A quick count in my display room shows at least 25 different models of Minolta. Some that I have are a Minolta 35, under 2000 s/n, an SR3, an Autocord TLR, both models of the 110 SLRs, several models of 16mm, an XK, a XD11, a XE7, 101,102 and so on. Interesting that of over 50 digitals, I have no Minoltas.

No Minoltas here except for a Revio APS and a Revio digital, both of which failed. Nice little cameras when they worked, but a higher failure rate than any other make we've had.

Welcome Spencer to the Group,
I still limit myself to one B/W & one colour a month, the only Minolta I have is a XD7 and I love it
