Hi everyone
Just a short note to introduce myself. My name is Chris, I am a retired English expat living in Spain for the last six years.
Most of my collection consists of SLRs, mainly from 1936 to 1960, from a few specific manufacturers - Ihagee, KW, Wirgin and KMZ.
Fairly recently I have become quite interested in some rangefinders in the shape of prewar Russian Feds and their accessories, and that has led on to postwar Feds, Zorkis and Kievs - and so the story continues.
ATB to one & all, Chris.

Chris
Welcome to the forum. Those Russian cameras can be quite addicting and if in good working condition perform very well.

Hello All - Many thanks for your kind messages of welcome.
Daveh - I lived near Ormskirk, Lancashire for over 30 years, now living near Albox, Andalucia for the past 6 years.
Hansz - Sorry Hans no Zeiss Ikon cameras but quite a few Carl Zeiss lenses.
Col - I was in Albany, SW Australia many years ago (1965 I think) during my 12 years in the British Merchant Navy. Nice place, I still have some photos from my visit (Edixa Reflex).
Nikonbob - Yes Bob the Russian cameras are certainly addictive, some very interesting history there, especially prewar.
Mickey - Sorry no rain in Southern Spain for months so I can't send you any. We've just had the driest winter for 20 years, and the summer has been quite warm! One of my brothers lived for a while in Willowdale - I visited him there in 1961, April I think it was, quite chilly in that ship canal.
ATB, Chris.

Chris,
Some of us at the Zeiss Historica Society collect numbers to reconstruct the production history of Zeiss Ikon and the Carl Zeiss companies. Whenvere you have some time to spare, please publish the Carl Zeiss lens characteristics like: exact description of the front lens ring, the mount (M42, Exakta, LeicaTM, etc.) and any other peculiarities...
Hans
P.S. well this is a question to everybody who reads this...

Hello Hansz
Most of my German stuff is in storage boxes at the moment and I haven't seen it since before I left UK over 6 years ago. But I do know where some of it is so I'll search it out and post the CZJ details soon as I can. I don't know how many of these lenses I have but I guess there must be about 30 or more.
About 15 years ago at a London Photographica Camera Fair I bought an Edixa Reflex camera fitted with a preset Tessar 2.8/50 in 42mm Contax screw mount with Ernst Abbe markings in gold fill on the front bezel. Totally wrong lens for the camera so I offered to buy the body only from the dealer. He said he would reduce the price by 5 GBP, but as it seemed unusual I decided to buy it for the extra fiver.
About ten people were trying to relieve me of it, especially a guy who I took to the fair who was always recording CZ lens numbers and types, so I put it in Christies - it fetched over 400 GBP! I think that's about the only time I've made a significant profit on any photographic gear. But it was an interesting lens and apparently commemorated Ernst Abbe's death. I have the details somewhere so I'll post them when I can find them.
ATB, Chris.

Chris, Ormskirk I know reasonably well, as I'm only about 25 miles from there. The nearest I've been to where you are in Spain is probably Granada. For those of you who don't know Ormskirk, and I suspect there are quite a few, it's a Lancashire market town sitting just about in the middle of the Lancashire Plain. Plenty of our vegetables come from that area. It's most noticeable feature is the church that has both a tower and a spire. I must get some photos of it some time. There is one on wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ormskirk
