Hello, an introduction, mainly I collect Cameras! ... and use them as much as possible and practical.
I used to work in the photo retail trade in the 1970/80's and I have experience in camera repairs, and later worked as a machinist with a scientific Instrument and lens maker in the UK in the 90's, sadly now closed.
I mainly use digital cameras these days, but I am still waiting for a decent one to rival Kodachrome25 or Tec pan!
Looking at the new Canon mirrorless....saving up! I need a camera that can take lens adaptors, which I can make in the workshop at home.
Mainly I collect 35 mm British, (yes, they do exist!) Periflex, Alpa, and Leica copies, plus a few Japanese 35mm, and a few German makers like Robot. There are some 120 roll cameras, original Rolleicord, Ensign Reflex Press, Meopta TLR, folders etc.
Currently interested in Sub Miniature, a Minox is sitting in parts on the workshop bench, whilst I find out just how to re-assemble it! A Vega is coming from Ebay, cheap! and I have just found a 100 foot reel of O/D B/W to load it with....I hope the empty cassette is inside!
I tend to use the film negs to be scanned etc, I have a darkroom, but little used now, it has an MPP enlarger for 6x9 down, and a Meopta sub miniature for really small stuff, it came with Minox accessories.
The main proper printing is done from 6x9, Mamiya Press, which excels at most project pictures, and beats all digital hollow.
Mostly I purchase from Ebay, with so few real photographic shops now in the UK. As I can repair, costs can be low.
I am also in a long term project to home build a decent 35 rangefinder, so far consuming a modified Russian shutter, a Contax type long base rangefinder mechanism, and a brass milled solid body!! Leica Mount, intended to take my Leica and TTH screw mount lenses. It might get finished some day!!, or I just use a Periflex!!
