Mmmmmm.....
Last post, nearly two months ago. Pretty boring subject then. I can remember when an SLR was something that nobody I knew could afford. My introduction was when I was working in Saudi Arabia. The exchange rate plummetted, and I was in a "What am I going to do with all this money?" situation - for the first and last time in my life. Even then, an Olympus OM-10 (with a 35-70 zoom on top of the standard lens) was the max I could come up with.
Now - look around. I have bids on 5 SLRs on eBay at the moment. Expectations? - maybe one. But the maximum bid I've got on is £14 ($20?). As PeterW said - we've never had it so good.
People on here mention how many cameras they actually possess. Between us it's thousands ! So talk about them people !
Regards - John

I have trouble convincing my wife there are actually 35mm Mamiya cameras that I don't already have. I consider myself fortunate that she doesn't know one camera from another, so when one of those "other" brands show up...she's none the wiser. Still a bit upset, mind you, that I bought another one (like the Fujica that just came today)........ Unfortunately, that's a position I have yet to find myself in! LOL ;D

I can see where you are going wrong right there Ron. If the good lady can't tell one from another, the secret is to never, ever let her see more than two at the same time. Then she'll think that you have two cameras in your collection! Ha.... !

I am watching a Kiev MF SLR on eBay at the moment. Comes with two backs and an 80mm 2.8 lens. Very low price at the moment with only a few days to go.
Wish me luck.

Well, I didn't get the Kiev that I was hoping to get, but I did just hit the 'buy it now' button on another one. This one a complete Kiev 88 TTL, with Volna 80mm f2.8 lens, 2 6x6 120 backs, eye level TTL metering prism, waiste level finder, lens hood, 2 filters, stap and a bag to carry everything in. Looks and behaves just like an older Hasselblad, just a fraction of the cost theough, plus a bit heftier. 6x6 on 120 in a SLR, great for studio portraits, possible wedding use (iether this one or my Mamiya C330) but great for landscapes.
Will be posting off the money order for it on Wednesday, then all I have to do id wait for the seller to recieve it, them post off the package from Canada. Should get here in about 3 to 3.5 weeks.

As far as cameras (35mm or medium format) and spouses. I learned long ago the best method is to "hide them in plain sight." Of course, in order to do that you have to have enough cameras so one or two more aren't noticed. Once you get above 50 it was pretty hard for her to recognize additional acqusitions. Actually, I think my mate is pretty much onto me, however. When I started with the Soviet gear she tolerated it because the cameras were cheap and she probably figured that was a better vice that some others I could acquire. When I got into Nikons the costs went up but I have produced enough family pictures--especially of our grandaughter-- with them to at least partially justify their existence in her mind.

Heath, I have supplemented my Kiev 88 CM with some Pentacon SIX TL's and a Kiev 60. One of my original K-88's was received in less than stellar working condition. No matter what speed other than "B" there was no gap to expose the film. So I used it to check film spacing on the six or seven backs that had accumulated. By the time I was finished, it was not only working properly, but my electronic shutter speed tester verified the speeds were within tolerance! Hope yours is even better! Mike

Thread seems to have slowed... For my first post here, Mike, tell me your experience with the Pentacon 6 and the Kiev 6! I've heard these are simpler mechanically than the 88 and usually function well. I think I'd favor them because they appear to have been designed for eye-level use with a prism finder. I have a hard time with reversed waist-level viewing, and chose a P6x7 30 years ago...
