Hello all, A hiatus from posting and doing a lot due to school. I was just at a thrift store today with a friend and she pointed out the camera section and I made a bee line for it! I came away with an $8 Ansco Super Memar (also says Prontor SVS on the lens) rangefinder with an Agfa 45mm f/2.8 lens. There was crap on the lens and some dirt here and there but, I cleaned it up and now looks pretty decent. The one second and half second shutter speeds are rather slow, other than that it works fine. Anyone else have one or something similar? Andy

I've got an Agfa Super Silette with a Solagon 1:2 50mm lens.

Andy,
Prontor refers to the shutter, not the lens.
That is a handsome camera. A bargain at $8.
You might be able to get the slow speeds up to speed by repeatedly operating them. Like a person they tend to get sluggish from lack of exercise.

It's an American market re-badging of an Agfa Sillette model, with changes to suit Ansco, feet only scale, and Ansco name. They were very good quality German cameras, not quite up to Retina or Voigtlander in either quality or price, mass market, and popular.

I have a Silette with similar lens. A great handy camera, made in large quantities. First 35mm camera I ever used (loaned from an uncle).
That Apotar is much better than what you would expect.

After actuating the shutter about one hundred times today at various speeds, mainly the slow speeds though, the one and half second are now pretty accurate! Thanks Mickey.
