Hi All! We went for a drive today, just had to get out of town. At one of the shops we visited, I found this.......... It's a Cee-Ay made by the Camera Corp. of America, Chicago, in 1949-1950. These are usually seen marked Ciro 35, It's rare to find one marked Cee-Ay. I talked them down from 20 USD, however, I could only get them to go down to 15. The shutter is gummed up, but that shouldn't be too hard to clean. I'm very happy with the purchase, these are too cool Doug

Hi again!
I've just discovered that my little Cee-Ay was the last camera produced by the makers of Perfex cameras, and was only built for 8 months in 1949 before the dies were sold. The company was bought out by Ciro, who continued making the camera as the Ciro35. Ciro was then bought out by Graflex, the camera was redesigned, and marketed as a Graphic 35. It seems that I've finally found a rare camera for my collection ;D

They are indeed rare, I had seen one in the UK, Perfex were unusual here generally. Looks in good condition, if the shutter is serviceable, and I suspect they are quite simple, then a real find. Few of the US makers could compete with Kodak, thy simply had the turnover to bring out new models as the market demanded, difficult for smaller makers, unless theu make went up market, and then they lost out to German imports. I had word with a friend who does camera repairs, and the shutter may have an issue, the makers, both Perfex and Ciro, sometimes riveted the shutter into place, cheaper construction than screws, but it should clean in place with lighter fluid, (refined petrol) after the lens and front screw on surround is removed. Use a light machine oil very sparingly after the clean, but not on the blades.

It seemed to have had a renewed lease on life each time one company was sold to another. David Tomei
