Started messin' around with some of my favorite film lenses on the 20D. Haven't quite solved the metering quirks yet, but I'm getting there. The subject matter in these pix ain't the greatest, but I was more interested in technical rather than artistic quality. All shots handheld. For early efforts, I'm pretty happy. SMC Takumar f1.8 55mm M-42 mount from my Spottie Vivitar/Komine 200mm f3.5 prime lens M-42 mount Tamron 80-210 Adaptall 2 zoom at 80mm Pentax K-mount Tamrom 80-210 zoom @ 210mm from same distance Tamron 80-200 zoom in tight, wide open Haven't quite solved the focusing yet either. A split image screen may be in the near future. Comments welcome Roy

Congrats looks pretty good to me. I have m42 to eos adpter coming. I understand the metttering is at best sunny 16, or trial and error??? I tried that with my D50 and it wasn't to difficult. the instant review makes it viable. focus was easier than yours due to the in focus green dot......thank you canon AL-1 ?? if I figure out how to post pics here, I'll do so later.

RECEIVED THE CHINA SPECIAL, $6, put it on an old 10s to test. then put it on my 10D. fit was good. contacts look fair. works . need to have plenty of light to activate the IF green dot, but given that it will light up when in focus. Big help to me. used a Chinon 35mm 2.8 , sunny 16 worked pretty well. took one string starting with 2.8 , then down a stop for each additional pic, just to get an idea of the pics difference in exposure. next will try same app. and vary the speeds. this is probably a good learning tool for someone to see how exposure settings affect their pics. of the pics I took, the ones in th3 to 10ft range were the sharpest. lens will focus at infinity. or so it seems.

I dug out my old Cambron 400mm stovepipe and put it on the 20D. This car was parked about 250 feet from my porch. I tweaked the contrast a little, and gave it just a touch of unsharp No cropping was involved. I cloned out the license number. To say I was shocked is an UNDERSTATEMENT! I guess there is something to be said for only using the center of the lens! Roy

I finally worked up the nerve to try my favorite "normal" lens (my battered old f2 50mm XR Rikenon) on the 20D. I guess I was afraid that it would not transition well to digital. These shots are untouched other than cropped for the follow-up pics. ISO 400 f8 1/640 AV Cropped heavily, and part of number cloned out: ISO 400 f22 1/250 on board flash full manual Heavy crop I think it works! ;D What do ya'all think? Roy

Roy, A bit late, but those images looks great! It seems that old Legacy lenses comes to a New life on digital, the Rikenon lens is extremely Sharp, the heavily cropped image is *SO* Sharp, it is a special lens.

Thanks, Truls. That old Rikenon surprises me every time I use it. I got it as part of a Bay of Evil purchase of a Ricoh XR-1. It looked so battered up that I didn't even try it for a long time, using my Takumar M from my Pentax ME instead. After cleaning the XR-1 up and replacing the foam, I took pity on the old lens and shot a couple of frames with it-------------------------------------------Holy Cow! My eyes bugged out when I got the film back! After that, if I was going to be shooting with a "normal" lens, the old Rikenon was mounted on one of my K-mount bodies.
Now to get that split screen installed in my 20D-----------------------------------------

I'm able to get around a little now, so I hung my Vivitar (Kiron built) 75-150 close focus on the 20 D and did some shooting. Here are a few of the shots. Captain Jack ISO 400 f8 1/350 150mm no post ISO 800 f11 1/4000 150mm no post ISO 800 f11 1/750 150mm no post 75-150 + 2x Kiron Matchmate-minimum distance f8 ISO 400 1/500 slight crop to get rid of dirt spot on sensor This little wild flower was about the size of a dime minimum distance ISO 400 1/125 f8 bounce flash from old JC Penney auto thyristor bounce flash As Shot With a little experimentation, and luck, I think I'm getting some pretty good results from my old lenses. What do you think? Enjoy Roy

I like your pictures, especially the flower pictures. Natural colors, very good detail, composition not bad at all. The out of focus areas renders almost pictorial, creamy and soft. How do you get those dog pictures, manual focusing and animals must be a hard combination?
