Hello all I’m Richard from Downunder in New Zealand
This looks like a great forum to join with it appears members with many and varied interests.
Now a bit about myself, I’ve been into photography since the early 60’s and seriously collecting since the early 80’s.
My first camera was my Father’s Ensign folder the but limitation of that brought on the purchase of a Braun Paxette Super IIBL in 1964 aged 14 with money saved from my delivery round(there I’ve gone and given my age away), this my first rangefinder served me well until 1967 when the hankering for something to hang large lenses on and the start of my first full time job in a Camera Store enabled the Purchase of a Pentax SV plus Hanimex 300mm f5.6 tele (budget didn’t stretch to Takumar lenses in those days). My main photography interest by now was Motorsport (hence the need for long lenses) and Steam Railway(in its dying day’s), model photography(female variety) was an interest also.
From those initial two camera’s a whole host of camera’s came and went including, Spotmatic’s plus a raft of other screwmount Pentax’s & Takumar lenses, Leica IIIG, Rolleiflex T, Tele-Rollei, Hasselbland 500C, Fujica 6x9, Pentax 6x7, Linholf 4x5, Canon F1, EF, A1, T70, T90, New F1 plus a whole host of Canon FD lenses, Canon 7s+50 f1.4, Canon 7 with 50mm f0.95, Olympus Pen FT, Leica M2, Leica M3, Pentax 110 super kit, original Polaroid SX70. Many of these I still have including the M2, M3, Canon 7+50 f0.95, 500c. The only one I really regret selling is the Tele-Rollei as I now fancy one for my collection but no way that’s going to happen with the price’s they fetch now (it wasn’t all that great a camera to use although the results were very good, I much preferred using the 500c or Rollei T).
I guess collecting started because I couldn’t bear to part with equipment that I was no longer using and replaced with something newer brighter & hopefully better. Working in a camera store that was part of a nationwide chain of course didn’t help, seeing and getting to play with all the latest equipment and also pursuing the list of used gear from all our other branch’s looking for stuff for my own use as well as my collection.
Being a committed Canon and Pentax fan I started out with the goal of getting as many different bodies & lenses as possible, over the years this expanded into just about anything to do with photography that takes my fancy and I can afford, I’ve even started collecting early digital camera’s.
I’m looking forward to reading others experiences and comments on collecting & using the fascinating array of camera’s & lenses etc. that have been produced over the years in the coming months and hopefully I may have something to contribute as well.
