Good score on all that stuff, new lenses at those prices have to be good. And the XA is a cult camera now, I was at the UK's largest camera fair yesterday ( spending money again ) and a lot of XA's were on sale at up £60 ( UK Pound )

It sounds like a firecracker going off as it charges up, which is kind of scary next to your face. I think the capacitor is shorted. Ron

If you can solder....... the main capacitor will be replaceable, just use the values on the outside of the capacitor, making sure the voltage rating is high enough. Most electronic supply houses will supply or Ebay. Stephen.

I know I can find a cap of the same value, but the space is so tight, I also need to have the same dimensions. I did TV repair in a past life, so soldering isn't an issue.

The size is often the problem, the Japanese used to use specialist capacitor makers for the flashguns, run of the mill generic caps are nearly always larger. It may be a slightly smaller value will work, as long as the voltage rating is high enough, the smaller value may reduce output, but give quicker charging. It might be possible to use two smaller caps in parallel to get the voltage/capacity required. Stephen.
