Ok, first of all, I had this listed in the wrong spot, so I apologize if it turns up twice. I'm not really into the whole toy camera thing, but when I saw this at the local thrift store the other day, I couldn't stop myself. They only wanted 2 bucks for it, and it is new in the box. Now what am I to do with it? I am indeed a sick, sick man Doug

Welcome, Doug, to the Lomo crowd!
Here in NL, a Holga is very popular at students to use it during pub crawls or wherever they spend their evenings.. A large flash is mandatory. Also cross processing is part of the scene.
And you've gor yourself a luxury one, Holga's can be fitted with a pinhole as 'lens' as well. The same group is using that one during their day-dwellings.

So glad they fit an Optical Lens, is the alternative a non optical lens? For a simulation of a non-optical lens, try taking a picture with the lens cap on. I have done a few of those with rangefinders.

I think the actual reason for backbiting ( if that's the right English word ) is not the camera itself, it's the price, it is usually sold at. The photographs are on the level of an ordinary disposable camera, which are still successfully sold and popular ( at least here in Asia ), just with the difference, that you can exchange films on the Holga. Considering, that the prices of those disposable cameras ( incl. film ) are strangely often lower than the price of the inserted film, we can now estimate the price of a Holga. Hups ... now I am starting to talk like everybody else here ... aaaaaaah ...

I've shot that exact scene myself a few times! Funny how it appears in so many different parts of the world! Roy
