If I saw this cloud formation I think I'd hurry for cover! Very nice pic, John. I like the directions in it, the angle of the jetty, the light streak at the top right and the reflected light on the water all take you to the menacing clouds and that lovely patch of clear sky in the middle of them. It's the sort of fleeting scene that has to be captured as soon as you see it. Well done!

John,
Beautifull formations within the bulk of those tumultious looking clouds. Ya sure can tell something is a coming! And the dock jettying out from the left hand lower corner is a nice addition to the foreground as it takes your eyes immediately upward to the clouds if the eyes started at the pic's bottom instead of an initial overall view.
Now that brings up something new here...how do most of us as photogs first see a scene. I know many a non-photog often starts...top or bottom, left side or right side, in the corner.
I do take in the entire pic at first and then my eyes migrate to the subject and around the scene.
John, would you stand fast to film a rapidly approaching tornado???

Hi Ron,
Don't know is the simple answer. They just look right or wrong. If they seem wrong I'll crawl along the narrow ledge on the side of the cliff, and lean out as far as I can until the shot looks right!!!
Don't know about a tornado, but I remember when we had a high tide which coincided with a Storm Force 10. The beach and car park looked as though it had snowed heavily because of all the foam/spume. I was out on the beach for about twenty minutes trying to get the 'right' shot, and came in looking like the abominable snowman. I'll dig those out and post a couple.
Regards - John

Can never put your hands on them when you want them - poor scan but you can see what I mean about the foam.

Jack,
Neat shot!
Obviously you must not have any trouble getting up rather early.
Since I have retired, I find it most difficult...often sleeping in till 9 or 10AM. Now I did recently manage to get out of bed early and catch some fog shots...shown in one of the threads.

Ron,
Up before 6am every morning except sunday. We have a 13 year old granddaughter who we are raising. She has to be at the road by 7am to get the school bus and since we live on a very dangerous road, both from Traffic and people, I waite with her for the bus.

Jack,
Kudos to you...many of them...so many people are rearing their grandkids today after all those years of having your own kids. I think it is nice and a real compliment to the character of the grandparents.
