Hi All! What do you think of someone who lists a camera as no reserve, discovers the bids aren't going to be as much as the seller thinks the camera is worth, and promptly removes the item ? It was already bid on. That's pretty low, in my opinion Doug

IMO that borders on fraud. Mo and I had that happen once about 2 yrs ago and filed a complaint with E-bay about it, not really expecting anything to be done. Imagine our surprise when the seller was banned! That's what "reserve" auctions are for!

This is one of the reasons I don't use evil bay unless I can't avoid it (at the moment light seal material is the only thing I am using it for.) The other reason is the "in good condition/working order" type of seller, this has included such working order items as badly degraded prisms, detached mirrors in slrs and jammed auto mechanisms in lenses. At least if I miss something on a camera at a car boot sale it's my own fault I also think evil bay makes people think they can get higher prices than things are actually worth, dealers put on a high buy it now price, this seems to make private sellers think they can get the same price. I have been looking for a bridge camera for my daughter (I just got a new Fuji and she has been out shooting with it before I had even got the chance) and have found that a lot of sellers seem to be wanting very near to what I could buy the same camera for new at the local supermarket. That's my rant for the day over. Matty

Ebay allows withdrawal before any bids, but with bids, in theory the sale is a contract at that point, no withdrawal without special reasons Stephen..

That kind of behavior really roasts my peppers! I've used e-bay for years , as a seller and buyer, and this is the first time I've come across this. As for reasons, they can always be found. This one was of the "the dog ate my homework" variety.

One of the reasons allowed is the death of the seller, but when they do it to you in a normal sale, it just like wanting them dead!

There is not much to do about this problem. Also many sells gear they know nothing about, often picked up from estates cleaning up. After a while I buy things from sellers capable of estimating the condition of lens/camera, with luck. Yes the price is a bit higher but always satisfied. We don't live in a perfect world.
