I believe Nikkor-S was the first series from Nikon. Got a 50 2.0 which not as easy to get as the Nikkor-H 50. Nikkor-S have 7 elements, Nikkor-H 6 elements. It is a small lens, maybe a new walk around lens. Here mounted on my wife's digital camera: No metering, no nothing, sunny 16. Will return with test shots later.

The f.2 Nikkor 50mm was always rated sharper than the f/1.4. The F/2 was also a lot smaller and lighter. When I was shooting for newspapers the only 50mm I ever used was the Nikkor f/2. I still have one of the later AI versions and it is just as good as its ancestors.

It is not the sharpest lens I have, the Rikenon 50/2.0 is much sharper. May be the Nikon camera don't like the old lens At f. 2.0: Crop:
