Hi Again! I'm so excited that I can barely contain myself! My newest Ansco came with the post today, and I couldn't be more pleased with it! It's the full frame model, making it a 1939, it's got an Agfa Memar f3.5 lens and shutter speeds of T, B, 2-1/200th sec. It will need quite a bit of work before it's usable, but that's ok. I knew that beforehand. I'll also have to come up with some Memo or Rapid cassettes. Life is good Doug

The Agfa Ansco Memo is uncommon in Europe and the UK, Agfa had established the Karat(Rapid) cassette cameras here in the UK, and the Ansco Memo film format and cartridge was virtually unknown in the UK. Karat Rapid used just 12 shots then, and the Memo 24, but the Agfa Ansco Memo can take both cassette sizes, despite the differences in size.
After the 1939 model there was half frame version made in 1940, but production stopped entirely with the seizure of Agfa's US assets and the break with Ansco US production, when the US declared war. Wollensak supplied the shutter and lenses to the Memo camera, with Anco made body parts. There were no German made parts used, so a purely US based Ansco camera design.
Rapid cassettes turn up on Ebay quite a lot, Memo cassettes I have never seen outside the memo cameras. Both take standard 35mm film, which can be re-loaded from any standard 135 Kodak cassette, or bulk 35mm film.

It must be that the Agfa Memo is really more unknown over here in the UK than I thought, I just bought one on Ebay, mine was the only bid, the first at list. It has the original leather case, with the cut out back for the winder tab etc., it does not mention any cassettes with it, but I have a couple of Agfa Rapid type cassettes which fit just as well. Just have to wait to see what the real condition of the camera is.

Your Memo model must be the top of the line, the 3.5, mine is 4.5, I think there were three models?...., I'll check when here, it is not the base model without the shoe, or leather.

Ansco Memos of 1927 Two different cassettes. Square and round. The beautifully simple film advance mechanism. Both cassettes open. Is this the right thread? Mickey

Nice original Memo cameras, produced before Ansco imported to the UK, and the film seems to have had very limited availability, till the Agfa Rapid cassette took over in Europe. In years in the photographic trade I don't think any Memo cassettes ever turned up, I assume with care the Rapid cassette could be used in the early Memo? The later Memo definitely takes both types of film.
