I've not been very present lately but I hope I'lle have more time for me when we have moved to our new house... I came across this curious thing attttttttttt a Vide Grenier recently but I don't have the slightest idea concerning its use. It seems to be made n bakelite, receives 2 AA battery cells, you can fix a light bulb on it, it can be fixed on a camera or something similar, there is a viewer, ...a few pics will be of greater help to describe it...

It fires large flash bulbs, screw in type, but quite why a viewfinder is fitted is a mystery, as you would not like to be near a big PF bulb going off! The square hole at the back on the bulb screw takes a reflector that was a dish behind the bulb to force the light forwards, maybe the holder was designed to fit a tripod and was triggered remote from camera, so the viewfinder was there to check coverage of the light.

The viewfinder is not for use when taking the photo. It is to line up a view of the hospital's crowd.
When Kate has her baby the bulb will glow brilliantly.
That will be the time to snap the shutter getting a picture of the expectant crowd lined up at 90 degrees from the hospital cheering and throwing their caps in the air.
Vide Grenier means Emptying the Attic. Most appropriate.
