Hi all! I just received this little rangefinder in the mail the other day........... It's in pretty nice condition, but needs some TLC. I'm going to put some white leather on it, redo the black enamel, and see if I can't get the meter working. I knew the meter didn't work when I bought it (.99 cents again!), but when I received it, I noticed that there is an LR44 battery inside, when these call for a 675. I don't have one at the moment, but would that make THAT much of a difference? Shutter, etc. are ok, and I can use a hand held meter. Doug

Should be able to use a 1.3 V zinc air hearing aid battery.

I had a Ricoh 500G when they were new. It was a nice little camera, but something went wonky in the shutter.
Battery voltage: it depends how the metering system was set up. Some had a circuit which allowed for different voltages (within a reasonable range), while on others the wrong voltage would result in the exposure being out by perhaps a full stop (or should that be a comma - or perhaps I should write it as one f-stop.)
If the available battery is to high a voltage, and giving an incorrect meter reading you can put a zener diode in the system to drop the voltage down. I have seen instructions on the internet and no doubt a search will reveal all.
If I remember correctly the camera had shutter speeds 1/2 - 1/500 sec and could be used auto (programmed setting) or manual.

Hi Dave! Nice to hear from you again!! As to my shutter problem, I used a fresh 675 battery, and it still wouldn't budge. I've put it on my "to do" list for now. I have a long list Doug

Doug, thanks. I didn't quite realise that it wasn't actually firing. To be honest I can't recall what went wrong on mine. I had a Yashica (I'd have to recheck the model) that got dropped which dislodged some of the shutter blades. I did start to repair it at the time but never completed it (I don't know why - time?). I suspect it's still in a cardboard box somewhere in the loft. I think the Ricoh got ditched, but not by me.
Dave.

Have you tried a gentle tap with a (sledge)hammer?
