Hey Bob,
That second shot is pretty boring.... And yet one of the best composed and technically perfect shots I've seen for some time! Superb. Great to see you've overcome the holiday period lethargy and got out there.
Regards - John

Hi Bob,
Have to agree with John about the second shot. I like the first one best. Sorry to say I haven't been out taking pictures since Christmas, not even with my 'new' Canon T70. I'm longing to try it out but I've been busy duing the week, and at weekends the weather has been so dull and horrible with overcast flat lighting that doesn't give any modelling at all. It wasn't really worth using film.

Somebody appears to be hoarding cabooses. I guess that is why we no longer see them on trains.

We haven't had one sunny day that I wasn't working in the last month so my camera projects are backing up. Bought and received 18 cameras, two lenses and waiting on 80 rolls of 400 film. Now if only the goldarn weather would co-operate.

Haven't seen a caboose on a train since. . ..can't remember when. A train without a caboose still looks incomplete to me, however.

The gray and orange caboose is the colors of the Guilford System, a designated operator line in New England. The caboose required a crew to keep watch over air pressure on the train. A Rear End Device does this by radio control to a device on the engine stand in the locomotive. A Rear End Device doesn't require a crew, thus the railroad was able to cut the crew on the train down to an Engineer and a Conductor. The Brakeman and Fireman positions became redundant and the railroad eliminated the jobs to save money. Canadian trains operating from Canada to the US still require a caboose per FRA regulations. Also, a Local train, that is a short freight hop with local deliveries still uses a caboose also.
