Hello.
I'm a photographer insofar as I take photos and I spend a lot of time around cameras as well.
Some time back I learned that my Great-Grandfather had a camera store in Long Beach, California back between about 1947-1950 and having a few photos and some adverts he placed in the local newspapers I thought it would be cool to collect some of the cameras he sold.
There were some easy ones (Baby Brownie, Argoflex) listed and then on the list are some not so easy ones to find reasonably (Ernoflex, Contax I, Technika III and so forth). It's fun collecting them and now the goal is to use them all as well considering I have film I can put through most of the cameras I've already collected.
I've sort of been looking for a forum or community that talks about older cameras and this place seems to be what I was hoping to find.
Cheers.

Welcome to the Camera Collector Joe.
When I was just a wee little lad Full of health and joy My father homeward came one night And gave to me a toy
A wonder to behold it was With many colors bright And the moment I laid eyes on it It became my heart's delight
It went "Zip" when it moved And "Bop" when it stopped And "Whirrr" when it stood still I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will

Thanks for the welcomes.
Hansz, no it's still on my list. I first prioritized the ones I could afford (3 kids put a damper in spending) and now am moving up the line.
Some I also wait to find really nice copes if they pop up all the time so I don't own a Baby Brownie because I want one from the right era and possibly with the box. I seem to keep finding qualifiers to keep me from buying too much too quickly.

Welcome to the Camera Collector Joe. I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will It sounds like one of those extremely rare Katydidn'ts. Mickey

A neat song by John Denver!

Actually, "The Marvelous Toy" was written by Tom Paxton and recorded by many singers, including Denver, Peter, Paul and Mary, Pete Seger, The Chad Mitchell Trio, etc.
