Well.....I was able to get an F, F2, F3, F4,and F5 together on my Nikon shelf! It sure is cool to see how things changed and how things stayed the same. I decided an get an F100 to round out the group. Nikon's own literature from the period pegs the F100 as a professional body, but it is out of the "singe digit" group so I don't know. I am very enamored of the F5 at the moment. The meter is pretty amazing as is the rest. The only thing I am not that into is the method of showing which auto focus point is being used. I like the way Canon did it on the EOS 1n by lighting up the point on the screen. The Nikon could probably not do it as it had interchangeable screens and prisms. I love having the ability to take the screen and prism out so you can clean it. A little blast of air and you're good. I have a cheap zoom from a long ago 6006 and 28, 35, and 50 D lenses The screw driver drive on the F5 is pretty darn fast and the D lenses are a bargain to be sure. I think a 24mm and an 80mm are in the future. I don;t find I need a long lens all that much and I usually find a moderate wide angle to be a good way to go for me. I think our hobby has changed a lot in the last few years as most folks use digital or their phone and there are very few mini labs left. I am quite happy with Tri-X and D76 and I will get a new film scanner.
Best,
Dwight

I've had the F, F2, F3HP, F4 and F100. The F100 was OK as the newest and last Nikon Film body I had but build-wise I don't think it was of the same stature as, say, the F4. Part of the problem was when I got the F100 I already had concluded most of my future shooting was going to be digital. Never owned an F5. Just too bulky and heavy for my tastes. I currently own two Fs, an F2, FA, FM and a Nikkormat FT3 but I don't shoot with any of them. I do use nearly all the Nikon and aftermarket Nikon glass I have on my D300.

I wish I would get all my old Nikon lenses serviced and AI'ed, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it would be cheaper to buy used AI versions. I can use them quite easily on the F4 as it has the handy 45 degree split image screen. I could also get the F5 altered to take non-ai lenses. My digital stuff is Canon and I will probably bite the 6D bullet before too long. I do think that the correct answer to the eternal Nikon or Canon or Leica or Hasselblad question is "Yes Please!" :-)

Really enjoying the Nikon F5. I'm a big guy with big hands so it fits fine. The weight is really pretty helpful as far as holding steady. I looked at a new Nikon digital camera (the new retro styled one) it was really a bit too light. I sucked it up and bought my first full frame digital camera and it is on the way. A Canon 6D, I was sort of waiting for it to go on sale and the price did not seem to be budging at any reputable dealers. It was staying around $1800.00 US for a body only. Then on Sunday I saw that it was priced at 1999.00 for a body AND a 24-105 f4 L lens! That is a bit of a deal. I would love to have the Canon professional camera, but it's a little matter of 7 grand......
Best,
