I was testing both a new lens, tripod and a new camera. The lens is a Sigma 600 f8 CAT, that I am using while the FD 500 f4.5 is in the shop. The tripod is a very stable old Vivitar that I bought for $20 at the flea market. It is 6 feet tall without the center column raised. The camera is an old Canon EF. I like it for the shutter, meter, MLU and aperture priority

Hi byuphoto...Excellent exposure on this gibbous moon. Being 600mm, is the pic cropped a lot? Or did you use a teleextender? Looks like the Sigma controlled flare fairly well. I might think you didn't use a teleextender? Is the enlargement about max? Or is there more resolution to squeeze out of the pic? What's the film. Looks smooth! One cumbersome(don't throw your back out), but sometimes effective way to photo the moon is to get a rest on the ground or low brace so you can elevate the lens without shake. Having sandbags(usually filled with uncooked rice) works very well. Good pic. Grace & peace to you byuphoto...litesong

Wow, Here's one from the NASA site: You know there is very little difference in the quality between them. Ignore the blue cast btw - It's an English soccer thing! Regards - John

Nice! I had a Meade 4500 telescope that I got some moon shots with but I never got one as sharp is yours! If you don't mind me asking: how did you determine exposure for this? When I had my telescope I had an adaptor for Nikon and used my N70. The TTL didnt' work with the adaptor so I bracketed most of a roll of film. Not very scientific but it worked.

I use the moonie 11 exposure rule and interpreted for f8. I forgot the shutter speed
