It is the same when woman purchase $2000 handbags. Worth it, nope. But one gets more trendy and accepted in "the club".

They are not worth that unless someone is prepared to pay the asking price, then suddenly they are worth it.

It's worth £900 because there are some people with more money than sense. Matty

Indeed, Matty. The same is arguably true of paintings only more so. Van Gogh's "Sunflowera" (or at least one them) has sold for several million pounds. One could get just as good a painting, using the same amount of canvas and paint, for a fraction of the cost.

One could get just as good a painting, using the same amount of canvas and paint, for a fraction of the cost ... Let's go back to cameras. You could arguably ask why waste money on Hasselblad, Leitz or Zeiss, when you could get just as good stuff, using the same amount of metal and glass, for a fraction of the cost ... A painting is unique of course. Some are rarer and more desirable than others. Some are'nt. Cameras come in series, some rarer but undesirable that nobody wants and cost nothing. Others are not so rare, but highly desirable and so cost a fortune. The Casio EX-TR35 is not a Van Gogh, or a Hasselblad. But it has a unique functionality, the simple folding stand that makes it a boon for addicts of social sites. Try propping your cellphone up with a box of matches. Or bar of soap. A must-have for countless professionals who can now offer free still samples before clients pay them to turn their webcam on.

I would have thought that it would have at least a forward facing screen if its for selfies, or is that a Samsung patent?

You should see my paintings.
Any one is rarer than van Gogh's "Sunflowers" as none of them have been seen nearly as often.
Perhaps when I am dead - if I cut off an ear lobe.

True value is not about money. If you enjoy something, it has the greatest value, regardless of cost. For me true value could be music. Even if no one like what I listen to, it is valuable to me. Enriching life a keyword. If we could buy everything we want every day, we come to a point there is no satisfaction. This is way out of current thread, get a tripod for the "selfie" cell phone?
