Here in Dallas, we have a computer oriented "Flea Market" which is called the 1st Saturday Sidewalk Sale. It's been around for quite a long time although it's not what it used to be with the growth of the Internet. I'll go on occasion just to see if I can find anything unique. Well.... last month I did! If common to find old plastic cameras, but rarely something like the mint Minolta Hi-Matic 7S II! One of my students who went along wanted it, but didn't have the confidence to negotiate for it with the vendor. As she's kind of become a daughter to me, I did it for her and came away giving somewhere between $10 and $15 for it. It's hard to tell since I "bundled" it with several other items we wanted!
I came complete with the case (in excellent condition) and seems to be in good working order. She's pretty excited!

Nice one Stan, I bet she's happy with that.

Yes, although she hasn't taken it out to shoot yet. We still need to get over to one of the super-pharmacies and pick up some of the hearing aid batteries that are supposed to work in place of the mercury PX-13 batteries. I've only ever read about the use of that substitution, but would really like to try it out.
It amazes me a little that a modern American 16 year old would randomly develop an interest in film photography!

I have met a few youngsters looking at old cameras and buying them. One asked me if I could repair his Canonet. Hmm sometimes these can't be fixed.
A PX625A battery will do the job and will last longer than the Zinc Air type that hearing aids use. Take the PX625A out when the camera's not being used and it will last a good while. The Zinc Air will run out whether you use it or not.

I just sold a black Hi-Matic 7S II on Ebay. The proceeds almost exactly covered the purchase of a Minolta Autocord. At least they're both in the same family (company). The Hi-Matic was a nice camera but I didn't use it much. My tastes are heavily weighted towards TLRs.
