It has been just over a year since I was last here, and what a year. It's been so long that I thought maybe I should introduce myself as a new member.
I'm looking forward to catching up on the posts, discussions, and anything new.
I just wanted to say hello to all and to get back into things here.
Ciao from cold Italy (summer never did arrive)

I started by trying to find that damn password.
I did find the time to get a bunch of new old cameras and stuff. I'll post the new acquisitions soon.

No Italian cameras unfortunately. But I did get a fine 1948 Rox of which only 500 were ever made and by a little company near Lyon with a rather odd history. Another camera is a nearly perfect, fully operating and cosmetically excellent Perfex black body Thirty Three which is pretty rare. Another is a Retina 167 which is a rare model made only in 1941 in very small numbers. A great story behind this odd model of an otherwise common Kodak.
Also some old Kodak film unopened and in excellent condition with expiration in 1919. These rolls of old film are great for display with some of the older cameras. And there is an early Japanese Arsen which is unusual in such fine condition. And some JL France lenses and a rare JL France rangefinder from this rather mysterious company.
Now I must photograph the new acquisitions as well as tackle the restoration of the rare Retina 167. I will post images as I progress.
Another project that has moved along involves the more detailed history of the life and troubles of Franz Kochman. There are many photographs of Kochman never seen before and a great deal of history regarding the seizure of his company and the production of later models of the Korelle under the control of the new Nazi owners of the company; and there is the story behind the theft of personal items of Kochman by the Gestapo. I owe so much to the Kochman family for their enthusiasm regarding my efforts to illuminate the history of this man. This story truly has begun to look like the script of a movie.
My best wishes to all.
Ciao
David

Welcome! Are you writing a book about Franz Kochman? It sounds like a lot of work. You italians are leading in design and fashion, Alfa Romeo, Gucci, Silvestri camera, the list is long.

Actually I think it would make an excellent movie. Maybe I can get Spielberg interested?
Actually I'm originally from Cheektowaga. Now there's a hotbed of fashion and design.
