I have been away for a while following a dead computer etc.
ASD and guy/girl/me stuff creates constant anxiety, especially if I have no camera with me, the Panasonic G1 [which died for a few months and amazingly recovered] is a bit bulky for my shoulder bag, and my favourite Sony A35 with 35mm[nom 50mm] ever on manual is not a carry all camera.
Recently I chanced upon an inconspicuous [!!] white Samsung compact in a John Lewis ex-dem showcase. I had been musing upon a cheapish digi-box which would fit my shoulder bag.but this seemed a touch bigger than expected. it was the NX 1000 with APSc sensor, with small 30-75 equiv zoom AND 24mm equiv f2.8 so,at £150 it was a no brainer. Wierdly, I love the 24mm-for calming cloudscapes..the nom 30-75mm zoom is fine for me...and it just about fits in the bag!
THEN my daughter asked me to look out for a small sensor compact, something with a history of 35mm SLRs and 50mm lenses, I have tended to avoid. I found a Fulifilm XF1 ,again, @£150 in delightful Aluminium and tan covering reminiscent of a mini Leica. I had to have one. I love the pull out and click manual zoom marked as 25mm-100mm marked zoom in 'old 'money' saving me the conversion factor. Now I seem to have joined the smart 'phone set with a snapshot camera which I hardly notice in my bag and acts more of a notebook than a DSLR replacement-except that I seem to insist to carrying both the XF1 and the NX1000-just in case, or bag maybe !
