Recently i was able to buy a pro studio strobe set up, as i was tired messing around with half way speedlite/ umbrella solutions. The unit is a French godard twin 16 system consisting of a 1600 Wsec twin outlet generator, two strobe units, large soft boxes and tripods. I never expected it to be this good and powerfull, even at its lowest 200Wsec the largest aperture i can use is f8 at 200ISO. I've used the 1600Wsec setting once just to see what it does, but at that setting it seems lightning strikes the room and you're left blind for the coming minute or so. The large soft boxes from chimaera give such even soft light it is now possible to photograph shiny metal objects without hot spots. Comes to show just how important "good" light is for your pics. Here's a pic of the generator , a shiny metal object and a selfie ( wich seems somehing you have to do if you want to stay "in" these days) all of them made with the godard at 200Wsec one strobe with soft box set up. This realy is something diffrent then a nikon speedlite, but then again you can't put the godard on your camera and carry it around

Funnily enough I was just thinking last night that I must get mine out of the loft and start using it. I bought it several years ago reasonably cheap when a shop was closing down. I tried it out when I first bought it but have never really used it in earnest. I've no idea how powerful my units are, but I suspect they are not up to the standard of yours.
Is the Godard anything to do with Jean-Luc Godard?
As regards the selfie, I thought "Django Reinhardt" on a bad hair day! Great stuff.

Please no more selfies, I must sleep tonight!
Its amazing just how much power a studio light puts out. I had 3 Bowens units and was stuck with f11 with 200ASA film
