I thought this was nice, a photographic theme, then decided to put some more up for a bit of fun. A couple of my oldest by Donald McGill for Bamforths

The first one was from the late 70's the McGills are from 1906 and 1907 according to the postmark' Bamforths of Holmfirth Yorkshire had been making picture postcards for a couple of decades before employing McGill to create comic ones. Old Mr Bamforth was a fan if the kinema and acquired a camera with which he made films of scenes in towns around Yorkshire which he then sold or rented to kinemas. They were very successful and as a result he decided to put 'actors' in scenes acting out short character sketches such as beggars, drunks, pretty ladies and so on. Bamforth made the first tracking shot, dolly shot, mid shot, closeup, cutaway and other conventions that are now normal in film and tv. He was a pioneer of cinematography before Hollywood even had a name. This all happened well before the Great War. When he passed, his son who inherited the company decided that postcards were the future - not films. Who could blame him, there were millions sent every year, many of which were posted and delivered the same day. Another from the 70's
