Probably not to be actually used, given the poor film supplies for double 8, a Carena Auto from the late 1950's/60 period, bought from ebay at £7.50. One of the nicest Cine camera makers, Carena were made in Lichtenstein, for the German Porst Group of photographic retail shops. Gevaert were partners with Carena, before merging with Agfa. They are top quality items, and featured a lot of firsts like Reflex Zoom lenses, and always featured good lenses like Schneider, which this one has fitted. the standard of assembly and finish is outstanding, only Bolex was better. The unique feature was the motor was in the handle, which was turned to wind up the clockwork. It has indicators for how much is wound and remaining, along with the usual film used indicator. They have a very unusual feature, the double 8 film autoloads, via a guide into the takeup reel. No messing about taking reels out to attach the film. At 18 frames per second they are quieter than a Bolex, you can barely hear it running. Auto or manual exposure, this model has fixed focus, and used add on close up lenses to get in really close. I used one of these for many films of preserved steam trains in the 1970's, it always worked perfectly. Sold in the 1990's as it was out of use. This one is in full working order, including the meter, but needs an odd sized battery to work. Tested with off board battery. Other photos to follow once camera is charged. Stephen.

A lovely camera, I remember people wanting to trade in but the battery was always dead and they werent wasily available. An LR50 battery costing about £3 is what you need and are easily available on ebay.
A pity the name was sold off and revived in the early 80's on cheap, made-to-a-price plastic SLR's and mediocre lenses.
