Recently i've found out that pre-Ai nikkors will to some extend fit pentax K mount bodys and even focus to infinity without the use of an adapter. This all seemed to good to be true and it is. Though the nikon bayonet fits in the opening oif the K mount you can not secure the lens and have to hold it against the flange. If you use both hands or a tripod it would be possible to take pictures that way. I've noticed that with some lenses i was able to give them a slight turn and fix them to the mount in that way. However on those ocasions the diafragm ring became very stiff to operate. I'm not sure as i didn't try it on all my pentax k-mount body's but on this MEf this trick didn't work, on a chinon K-mount camera it did ( maybe they're mounts are a bit sloppy?) Another thing is not al pre-Ai lenses will be suited to do this as for example my rather nice 28mmf2 wideangle nikkor has a lobe on the back next to the lens element wich portrudes in the K- mount to deep and will have the mirror smashing on to it when trying to expose a frame. To make things complete the metering on the MEf was waaayyy out with the nikkors, once again i don't know if this will be so with all pentax models. Conclusion: not for the faint hearted and try at your own risk! PS. i do know nikkor to PK adapters exist but they use a glass element to compensate for the added lens to film plane distance wich will ruin any advantage of the use of quality optics

This is well known - in some circles. You do lose the closest focus though. The aperture ring on Ai models can get in the way.
