I finally gave in to temptation and bought a Fed-2 from the Ukraine. I was a bit dubious as I have had a bad experience from a chap in Russia (yes, I know, different countries now) and I wasn't sure what effect the current conflict would have. Was delivered in 6 days from me paying (I've had slower from British sellers) in the condition described apart from the rangefinder not being correctly adjusted but I tend to use hyperfocal focusing so I don't really care. Test film about half-way finished.

Had an embarrassing session with this camera. Finished the test film and was busy rewinding when I noticed the lens cap. All those brilliant photos of trawlers in Scarborough harbour - nothing. At least I am sure they would have been brilliant if the lens cap had been in my pocket where it should have been. I shall never know now.

Oh... no...
I have the habit of leaving my lenscaps at home - not always a bad thing! A UV filter protects the lens and of course is very effective on film - less so on digital.

Whoops,..... we have all done the same with caps, and have been told off by digital cameras for leaving one on!! The older collapsible Leica and Russian lenses were better on the lens cap issue, you have to have the cap off to adjust the aperture, so it gets noticed before tha damage is done. Stephen.

One of the reasons I like so much the J-12 which also needs to have no cap in order to adjust aperture.
I cannot recall how many times I have lost a good photo opportunity because of that darned lens caps. Most dangerous if you are switching between SLRs and rangefinders.
The Fed-2 has good reputation. I only used one briefly, my favorite in the category is the Zorki-6. That lens is a pretty adequate one if you got a good example.
