I had dee'scounted a new VW Beetle because of the cost . I did not like the previous attempt at retro , but the new one is reminiscent of a Porsche and it seems to be more heavily discounted that the Polo and Golf , which are boring boxes . I love the retro look with wings as my hard drive got fixed around 1957 and i can't dee'lete and add more appropriate
I can buy one for £14,000 which is affordable and £4,000 off list It's based on the 6th generation Golf , but thats is a an advance on the Alfa Romeo 147 . I can only imagine that VW need to keep the production line flowing for a niche product . It would be the 1st quality car I have owned , Fiat Group and Citroen are not renowned for quality ! Hopefully , it would stand up to 15 years of retired motoring ! It won't b until early 2016 because I will be servicing and MOT the 147 at the end of the year , dee

The only car I ever had was a grotty Moggy Minor born in 1958, alas it finally gave up the ghost in '82. I called it Alfred. After the MAD character coz it had sticky-out indicators like old Alfies ears.

My favorite is the Plymouth Road Runner. I've owned 11 of them. ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v730/diecastdeluxe/cars/1970roadrunner.jpg)

So, have you bought that VW Beetle yet? I bought this one in November and I'm loving it! It drives really well, gets excellent mileage and exudes high build quality. ![](http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k525/docfoxphoto/VW%20Beetle/Rear%20Fender%20LoRes.jpg)

The Beetle was on hold pending a cancer scare , not that I am too bothered about it as I have had a good innings . That's resolved as clear , but the creaking Alfa has just been MOT - government tested ] for a few months , so less urgency . Thanks for your feedback Randy - it helps to know that someone is happy with a Beetle ! dee

Dee, I couldn't resist re-plating the car. The random numbers and letters issued by Pennsylvania were rather boring. This seems much more appropriate! ![](http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k525/docfoxphoto/VW%20Beetle/bugger%20LoRes.jpg) My BUGGER continues to be fun to drive. But then so was the first New Beetle I purchased in 1998 - I even wrote an editorial about it for Sound & Vibration magazine. Click here for PDFBest regards, George

Of course in England the Bug is called a Beetle and a reg plate 'Bugger' may suggest you 'bat for the other side'.

To adopt another obscure UK expression - that Registration is just NOT cricket in UK - can someone translate ?
HOWEVER _ RESULT!!
Brand new Beetle in Platinum arriving from Mexico ,should be here late June/early July .
Hopefully my tired Alfa Romeo 147 with engine management light warning me , will hold out until then !
It's gone up to £17000 with delivery from the Midlands dealer who chased the car for me , Alloy Whizz Wheels [ Twister ] which are intended to make it sporty , i guess but just makes it look like a toy and which rather upsets the Art Deco purity that I prefer .The grey is fairly architectural and minimalist which suits me , as a designer .
If they do bring out a revised model , I should not lose too much on trade in BUT it would be another £3000 or so . I hope to simply get accustomed to it and relish the savings !
Of course , a more upright 5 door would be more sensible at approaching 70 , I have lived with a 3 for Coupe Alfa 147 with too wide doors for 12 years and swore never again ... the Alfa was style over substance [ VW Golf ] I guess and the Beetle is somewhat the same as a Golf with a similar spec would be £2000 more , but I love curves !

UPDATE .
The New Beetle 1.2 design arrived on a trailer from an agent [discount ] ! It's a 2017 model which was advertised as White Silver .
Unfortunately , we were unable to see a paint chip . It's pale grey - with just a hint of metallic . Not a metallic silver/aluminium as expected .
I love it , with beige interior , it's reminiscent of a 30's coupe . It could be a solid colour in most lights .
It's just so civilised and quiet after a 2003 Alfa Romeo 147 diesel , which is being given to a young couple who need a car . I actually cleaned it out for them as I anticipated it going for scrap .
How do I post pics from Photo on an I-mac !!!
