Hey guys ! some of you you might have wondered where i've been. Well i'm in the fifth week of my holidays in New Zealand, there hasn't been much time for camera collecting. Still when paasing a few days in Singapore on the way i was very tempted by what was on offer in the classic and second hand camera shops !
I didn't know then that i would be needing a camera in a hurry very soon...
In the first week of NZ my trusty D300S fell in a waterfall after hitting two rocks on its way down ( for some obscure reason the quick coupling pate on the tripod just came loose),i was able to pull the camera out of the water but it was completely destroyed. This is the first camera in my 45 years as a photographer i've lost ( no actually the second as i my Fuji S3 drowned and refused any more service after a terrencial rainfall during a reportage with no place to seek shelter). Problem was i still had six and a half week of NZ to go and no SLR. I still had the P600 and the AW100 but these weren't exactly what i had in mind for my further photo report on NZ. To make a long story short, NZ isn't a camera country, and i was unable to find anything decent to replace my D300S untill after a week i met a pro wedding photographer who was willing to sell me his (well used) D300S for a reasonable sum. From then on i was back in buisness, the 17-35 did survive the plonge and after some initial refusing to AF it came back to life and has been most of the time on the camera ( i still had the 8mm fish, the 12-24 and the 50-150 with me but those were only usable in certain situations) Well i hope no more disasters will happen in the coming two and a half weeks and if i get back safely to Belgium i"ll post some pictures. ( a bit difficult with this connection)
