I have just noticed that I may see a potential camera , but wait until the later model is announced and then jump in . The camera is precisely the same as when I 1st considered it , but it's suddenly become uncool .
I have also bought a few used , Leica Dig 3 and Panasonic L1 [ my al time fave cameras ] from a respected Leica dealer and a Sony A390 [ for waist level screen ] from e-bay because I knew how old it would be as they only made it for two years and would not be bought by a serious photographer.
Others were ex-dem or just on sale , like the bargain of the month - new Fujifilm X-Pro 1 body from Car Phone @ £158 . It's as if there is no respect among these whit goods outlets and it s make space whatever . Not that I am complaining mind you .
With a 27mm f2.8 @ £150 awaited , this a serious budget outfit - making £35 for a leather case see outlandish extravagance . [ I have a very small leather bag which cost £1 from a charity shop , which may be dee'respectful to the camera - but the M8 is content with an identical case .
Does anyone but equipment at full price ?

I bought my Canon G12 when it was being closed out, with a new model replacing it - similarly the 60D, a few weeks before the 70D was released.

Does anyone but equipment at full price ? Only if i really want it and I want it now. For "new" stuff, I generally prefer refurbished or lightly used.

Forty years or so back we used to have the Resale Price Index in the UK: items were sold at the set price. When that was abolished prices tumbled. However, even at the new cut price, we paid something like 25% more than the item was selling for in the USA. The internet and the global market have forced sellers to have competitive pricing. That said, there is always the item that is offered, on such as eBay, at a considerably higher price than seems "reasonable". Then we get the companies that offer everything at prices that seem too good to be true. The trouble is that they often are too good to be true.
My answer would be that I will pay what I consider to be a fair price for the item being offered. That is unlikely to be full price but also unlikely to be the cheapest either.

Phew - I thought that I was the odd one out , scrambling around for ex-dem or close out stock ! The Sony A35 was the nearest at retail , but even then , it was discounted as discontinued . The A290 was a gift , that was retail , but less expensive than any entry level 'rival ' - though it was not seen as completion for any other budget DSLR . The wierd element is that I love it's utter simplicity and old CCD colour rendition that I found a cheap A390 [ flip screen ] on e-bay - should have waited !!

That is to say that I have bought only one camera which I describe as OK , but not much fun - it was a Samsung NX 1000 - new , , cheap , Dulux white and came with the zoom and a nom 24mm lens - cheaper than buying lens for a Sony .

I never buy anything at full price. My last "almost new" camera purchase was a Sony NEX7. Bought a clean barely used example and saved a lot of money. I guess some might regard it as "old" but i don't. I find its features and 24.3 mp make it a very capable tool. Plus the fact that it's mirrorless means that i can at last use ALL my mf lenses with it. And that alone makes it easily worth the price i paid.
