I've been experimenting with some old glass, in this case the pentax takumar M42 (not smc) 50mm 1.4, yes the one with the radioactive thorium elements. Even though it can't be focussed at infinity on the D3 it gives incredible image quality for portraits (putting the perspective on FX aside) This shot at f4 was sharper than the higly praised sigma 50 1.4 at 5.6. Amongst other vintage glass i've tried the Meyer Görlits 50 2.8 but i haven't got the right adapter, this is a wonderfull lens but more on that later.

here's the one with the Meyer @2.8 (wideopen) i was unable to focus corectly because i haven't got the right adapter (yet) And this is the one with the sigma @1:1.4 I've found a crate full of old primes, in time i'm gonna try them all...

Your posts go to prove that some older lenses perform very well on digital. If one want to sacrifice the mod cons of auto focus and matrix metering etc there are some very good pieces of older glass still available..

The Takumar 50 1.4 is an amazing lens. And still not that expensive on Ebay. Have you tried the 2.8 135 Takumar, or the 1.8 85mm?
Both very, very good.
