Has anyone performed a view-screen clean as part of a mirror damper replacement procedure as described here? - www.kyphoto.com/classics/seal/Nikon_EL.pdfI was just wondering how fiddly you found it? It's that spring removal/replacement that bothers me slightly. Springs can be extremely uncooperative. I recently acquired an EL off Evil Bay for £8.50 - details here.

Johnbear i never did this procedure on a nikkormat but i did replace the focussing screen on my D300 by a cats eye type. The procedure is very similar to what is described in the pdf. It gave me HELL even though i thought i was well prepared to take up the job things went very wrong when the spring came out of it hinges and i didn't know how exactly i could get it back in again. finally after half a day of fiddeling and sweating in anxiety to get the d300 back toghether again i succeeded, but there was more dust on the screen than ever before. i left it that way as i didn't want to go through the procedure once more. I now am able to decently focus MF lenses on the D300 even though the focussing screen is somewhat dusty. With a £8.50 camera i can imagine the procedure will be a little less stressfull in the event of something going wrong. Anyway £8.50 seems like a good deal on the EL i've got a few but never found one in that price range.

F***ing springs. I hate them.
Here's something I posted to an airgun forum years ago. It's a little long - -
