I don't come back here much because, apart from Yashica1943 and myself some months ago, nobody's posting anything any more, not even comments. I know posts are read because I see the figures. so readers, please leave comments. The site will stay as long as the admins let it and perhaps longer, but it will be dead in the water without active members.
I just read a post that said 'Happy 2017'. I did, and here's to 2020 - a few weeks away.

No point in reading or posting without a new subject. I found the AZ an interesting challenge for a while, but short posts about curious items might receive some resonse.
On another forum I posted a brief comment\on the Werra 3, no response so far. On leafing through several issues of the German mag "photo-Deal, I notice that technology has been frquently copied and improved by totally different firms. For insytance the slr-pentaprism was invented by an architect quite some time before duflex in hungary and contax plus Rectaflex commercialized it. And the Contax m42 mount became the global standard for a while after sahi aquired the rights.

I must admit I read some posts that I am unable to comment on some of them due to lack of knowledge, or those that occasionally bamboozle me when I don't understand what has been said. And of course what's interesting to one member may be of no interest to others.
Three or four years ago, any post would have elicited a slew of replies and comments. The forum was quite lively, ten posts a day sometimes many more. Specially when I started the A-Z, that was done expressly to generate interest and to let the members showcase some of their more unusual items.
Photobucket and one or two other 'free' picture hosting sites screwed that up by wanting payment.
I suppose the average age of the longer standing members is well into their 70s, and at that age, health and other things become more important.

Photobucket dropping free hosting (and Wordpress stopping hotlinking on the website I set up to get around Photobucket) have stopped me from posting much - that and the dearth of interesting cameras around now. I did pick up a Pentina a few weeks ago, though, although I paid too much for it.

I check these posts every day but rarely comment. I still have my precious camera collection but have not made a purchase in several years. Nevertheless the posts are interesting and informative. I also find that many of the old postings make excellent reading. They sure beat wars and politics and crimes.
Photobucket has spoiled this post for me and I am looking for something to replace it that has a conscience. I am thinking of Cloud but know little about it yet.
Is there a geriatric division of CC? I don't get about much any more.

Mickey, you can attach the images directly into the post without going through a third party now. Use add image to post button which didn't work at one time. Click on the image below to enlarge. Taken on my Nikon D3200 with Helios 44-2 lens

It has been a while since I last looked at the forum let alone posted to it. Many of our old(?)experts no longer visit the forum anymore.
I'm glad that we've been reminded that you can now add images as attachments. Regarding Photobucket any images added to the forum in the past should have reappeared but they now have a watermark on them.
I'm afraid that out Links page and the Cosina Files have disappeared. I think that they went with Randy's demise.

Oops, having looked at some pages with Photobucket images on them I can see that they are useless now being very blurred. I'm sure that they were not as bad as that when Photobucket first introduced the watermark.

Photobucket has proven to be a nasty, vindictive organization.
Whenever I try to read the old messages and view the old pictures the words "Just deserts" and "Spoilers" come into my head.
I will be 87 in a few days and I asked my two I.T. grandsons to switch my pictures to a decently moral programme as my gift. I have also asked them about switching all the programmes as there is so much wisdom and humour and so many memorable people that I would like to take with me.

Further to the point above about storing digital material:
Iit is prudent and gives full control by having storage nearby. I use several small USB harddisks where i previousely employed double NAS- with no only local connection, no web, for safety I always stored a copy disk at another address. Unless you need to share your data with the world and are willing to risk data loss and data break-ins, "cloud" services should be avoided even if the operator has not yet gone broke and has given no sign of gouging its users for money. With local storage, you can always send specific images and texts to whomever you wish.

With the passing of Randy, Reijo, Peter Wallage and departure of folks like Ron Herron etc. I just sort of fell off the map myself. In discussion with a fellow at KEH camera to possibly purchase a few of my hoard as I just don't get out to use them as often as I did when I had both functional knees and developing was cheap. Since my knee replacement went awry I have a difficult time doing all the photography I enjoyed so much. Anyhow please accept my apologies and I'll try and show up more often.

I've noticed my last post was some 2 years ago. A lot of things happened since, conquering cancer, depression, travelling the world, working the bucket list and so on... The camera collector meanwhile had become a "why am i bothering" thing, mainly due to the lack of response i felt like i was shouting in the desert. I wasn't looking for praise or admiration, but just some response would be welcome to know posting isn't a waste of time. The older you get the more precious time becomes,so one becomes inclined to choose how it is spend. The thing is i am strongly under the impression "hard core" camera collectors are a dying race. Whenever i go to (classic) camera fairs the little folk wich still attend those are either "older people" (excuse me the phrase) looking for that one missing piece, or an occasional young person looking for a SLR that's usable for their photography study or just out of curiosity, mostly they'll end up with a canon AE1 or a pentax K1000, but it is very unlikely they'll become the next generation of camera collectors. To put this in perspective it has to be said that in all branches of collecting (be it coins or stamps or whatever...)the next generation isn't coming forward at least not in large numbers. With all this said and the fact i don't hold a grudge against the camera collector forum, i promise to make some time to put up s posts and see what happens. Kind regards to all "camera collectors" François
