Got my hands on some Nikon displays, they even came with the original cardboard boxes in wich they were sent of to the dealers. It dosn't get much better for showing off :-))) Got the ones for the F4, F3, FM2, F401, F801s, F301, F501,FG20,L135,FG,Nikonos V, and a display stand for three lenses. I've bought a few stands in the past, but this beats them all! Here's a shot of a few with the correct cameras on them:

Now with these displays i've got here i was starting to wonder if Nikon ever made "dummy" display lenses and camera's. As far as i can remember i never seen anything like it. While for instance Leica, from what is on offer on the net, seem to have made more dummy material than real camera's, i've lost count just how many R3's and R4's, the occasional M5 and 50mm summicron's dummy promo material i came across. To some extend it is even silly people paying more fore a dummy R3 than for a real one

Hi there. Nikon has always been known for its high quality and durability. I like this manufacturer. It is still used to create original photos. See one of my latest photos here: essaydragon.com/blog/attention-grabbers

Apparantly Nikon did make some dummy cameras, though they are very scarse here's one currently for sale at a Hong Kong dealer: Item Name : Nikon "DEMONSTRATOR" Photomic FT with "DUMMY" 55mm f1.2 Serial no. : 6718205,204153 Description : Very Rare !!,body mark “DEMONSTRATOR” which is working body, all speed working, meter not been test, prism without separation, tiny dust inside,55mm f1.2 lens mark “DUMMY” which don’t have aperture blades & only with front element, glass with faint cleaning marks,no haze, tiny fungus mark on very edge Remark : W/Cap Cosmetic Condition : EX++ It's priced at 2900$ wich a guess is reasonable for such a rare item. And here's another one, this one is well known and documented airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/camera-nikon-f-dummy/nasm_A19772553000More recently Nikon did make the occasional display dummy DSLR or compact these are more common. Wich brings me to the disturbing fact of FAKE Nikons. Not those Chinese toy cameras with sillly names like Nippon, Kwanon or Olympya to confuse people in to thinking they are "real" Nikons, Canons or Olympus. No here we are talking about forged cameras wich look like a real D800E, D7000 or so but are actually a cheaper type with the externals of a higher end camera. I didn't think this was possible or worthwile to do but so it seems some crooks found it worthwile to pull such a scam. The story goes somebody bought a grey market D7000, everything seemed OK until the camera developed focussing issues and he brought the camera at a Nikon service center. They told him they couldn't help as the serial number on the body didn't match the internals, closer inspection showed the camera was actually a D90 with a D7000 "body".... so Caveat emptor or buyer beware!

According to McKeown's Nikon made a Nikon F, F2 and F3 cutaway, a FG display model, FA & F4 cutaway and a transparent F90.Never seen one myself.
