Bought this Icarex 35 at a lokal thrift store for very little money. When i gave it a more thourough inspection when i got home i noticed the 50mm 1.8 Zeiss Ultron wasn't an ordinairy lens.
Apparantly it is a rather special Zeiss design with a concave front element. I ran a slide film through the icarex to see if everything worked, This lens really delivers on painterly rendering of the image, i did a quick scan of the film with a very crappy slide to digital copier wich dos nothing for sharpness, but gives a good inpression on how the image is rendered. Sadly even with an adapter, the index distance of the Ultron is so short infinite focus is inpossible on any of my DSLR's and it seems like i will have to bite the bullit and get me a FF mirrorless to overcome the index distance problems with a lot of old glass wich i want to use.
However, for the moment it's a lot cheaper to keep using film for the occasional lens test.

Here's a few shots i've made with the Ultron and the Nikkor on the D3
no sharpness problems with the ultron here... the Nikkor 135 f2 just melts away the background while the ultron still maintains some structure, nothing bad here, just a question of preference.
Ans as an extra for all you "swirly bokeh" fans, here's one with the helios 44M-4 55mm f2 (wich is afterall a zeiss design as well)
