With some C-mount lenses wich i bought to fit on the pentax Q system (wich didn't work out well) still laying around I thought i try them on the Nikon 1 cameras.
First combination to try was the canon 17-102 f2 TV zoom on the Nikon V2. The first "problem" wich occured is the V2 then only works in full manual mode (unlike when you use the FT1 adapter with F mount glass) So exposure needs to be guessed by trial and error or by using a handheld meter.
Secondly, achieving correct focus is very difficult, wide open the lens has very shallow dept of field (even on the small V2 sensor) and the focus peaking or focus confirmation features dont work in this set up.
Then there is the focus shift problem while zooming, although this can be solved by shimming the lens (on the c-mount adapter) so it's flange to sensor distance becomes correct.
With the 2,74x crop factor the 17-102 now becomes a 46 to 278 equivalent focal lenght.
So on the plus side a 278mm f2 comes in handy for using high shutter speeds or in low light situations.
The lens is very sharp even wideopen, but as said focussing is a hit and miss affair.
All in all this can be a fun and cheap combination to play around with and could be usefull depending on your style of shooting, but the achilles heel is the Nikon 1 small sensor size wich isn't very helpfull in image quality. Still if i want to use the 1 cameras with non original lenses i'm better off using the FT1 adapter wich allows for all auto functions to work.
Pigeon "shot" at f2
cropped to 100%
Nice "bokeh" wideopen
The six bladed diafragm when stopped down makes the bokeh less pleasing
