i've just bought a 55mm 2.8 C lens to expand the range of focal lenghts for the 645 super. The 55mm is said to be the sharpest lens available for the 645, sadly upon recieving my copy, despite it being in like new condition there's mold inside the lens on the front and second element.( this is a problem i've encountered with several mamiya lenses) Because i cannot open the lens as i haven't got the right tool yet (it is ordered but will take over a month to arrive) i exposed the lens to a good amount of UV-C to at least stop the growth of the mold while awaiting the right tools. The second "flaw" is the 645 body. When i tried using it after it has been in storage for some time, the meter generated the "over" fault code. While the camera is fully functional manually, metering and auto exposure won't work. The problem was diagnosed to the four "gold" contacts between the film back and the body wich exhange ISO film info to the meter. A Q tip and some Isoproppyl alcohol solved that problem. If i find the time to run a film through the camera i would be able to make before and after shots with the moldy and afterward cleaned 55mm to see if there is any (significant) difference. The 645 with lenses The gold contacts wich caused the problem The 55mm with mold (not very noticeable in this shot but it's there!)
