Every so now and then you get lucky, buying a camera that was advertised as defective of wich you know you've got a good chance it can be fixed. This Yashica 12 is a rather rare incarnation of the yashica TLR series as it was produced only for one year, so apart from being a usable camera it's got some collector value as well. It was advertised as having "some trouble with the slow speeds" but when i tested it it had got "no speeds". The camera however is in very good condition but could use some detail cleaning. Further examination showed me there was no take up spool in the camera and as i suspected this was wat was causing the shutter problem. I've put in an empty spool, transported the "film" and the shutter suddenly worked (on all speeds) turns out the spool drives the film counter gears, when they arent engaged the shutter isn't cocked and it looks as if it is defective. All in all i was wondering did the seller know the shutter wasn't working and in an attempt to make it seem less worse, said there seemed to be a problem with the slow speeds and acted as if he was oblivious of real the problem? (wich wasn't a problem after all). Anyway i've got it for a good price, not scrap metal but maybe just the right price for what it is. I guess this will allways be a problem when buying on line sometimes you get a good deal and sometimes you don't...Caveat emptor !

That is a very nice TLR. Some time ago I bought one for a friend and it was hard to let it go after the test. I understand it came out just before the better-known 124.

Yes it did, there was also a 24 model (220 film 24 exp) and in the following year they kind of fused the 12 and the 24 together and came up with the 124
