A new arrival came my way in the form of a FB5 Compartment Case with contents. It's a real time capsule with inside a Nikon F with photomic Ftn finder, 50mm f2, 35mmf2.8,200mm f4, the K extension ring set and some other period accesoires. Everything is in perfect condition and serial numbers place it in the 1967to'69 period. I can imagine in those days this had to be one of the coolest camera gear to walk around with and i gues it would have made the owner very proud. I was able to buy this set from the son of the original owner, who never used it but kept good care of it. The FB5 case is a brown version wich now can take up some space next to the black version i've bought some time ago.

It is still a very cool set. Congratulations! Maybe even the Photomic works?
Hmm, I need to look for a 200 mm, now that you mentioned it.

I did a quick comparison between the Nikkor 200mm F4 Ai manual and the AF-s Nikkor 70-300 VR. Both at full aperture, the 70-300 at 210mm . The 70-300 looses allmost one stop to the 200 when zoomed in to 210mm (f5.3) The 70-300 looking somewhat more contrasty while there isn't much or no difference in sharpness. The 200 f4 is still one of the most underrated nikkors and subsequently can be had for very little money. I've got three versions of the 200 f4 and can't see any difference in performance between any of them in everyday situations. Next to one another at 100%: The full scene:

Thanks, I am exploring auctions for the 200/4 and the 75-300 AI at the moment. Let us see.
